Cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found in the Cannabis plant. Learn about the main type of cannabinoids and their effects.
CBD is the second most common cannabinoid produced by the cannabis plant and does not produce a feeling of intoxication like its counterpart THC does. CBD concentrations in flowers are generally low because most breeders are focusing on THC, however, that trend is beginning to change.

Delta-8 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is a mildly psychoactive cannabinoid that has recently gained popularity due to its similarity to delta-9 THC. It usually only exists in minute amounts in cannabis flowers, but because of its unique effects, many companies are attempting to isolate and enhance the cannabinoid.

THCa is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that can be found in raw, live cannabis. THCa and THC are the most abundant cannabinoid found in cannabis with concentrations up to 40%. Many cannabis companies are now including THCa percentages in their cannabinoid breakdown.

THC, also known as delta-9-THC, is the most abundant cannabinoid found in the majority of cannabis cultivars. This cannabinoid is responsible for the majority of the intoxicating effects we experience from cannabis.

CBDa is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that can be found in raw cannabis flowers. Cannabis naturally produces CBDa as the raw precursor to CBD. CBDa will slowly convert to CBD when left at room temperature or, rapidly, when exposed to high temperatures.

CBG is known as the “mother molecule” of cannabis. It’s acidic form, CBGa, is the molecule which creates all other cannabinoids that can be found in cannabis. This cannabinoid is non-intoxicating and has been reported to have powerful therapeutic properties.
